Transcontinental Rum Line 5 Years Old 2016 Jamaica Rum
Transcontinental Rum Line is the independent rum label of La Maison du Whisky, the Paris importer founded by Georges Bénitah in 1956 and the company that brings Velier's rums into much of the world. The line launched in 2016 with a simple idea: instead of a bare age statement, every label tells you how much of the rum's life was spent aging in the tropics and how much in Europe, because the two climates build very different spirits. This Jamaica 2016 is a traditional pot-still rum distilled from molasses in 2016 and aged four years in American oak in Jamaica, where the heat pulls hard on the cask, then shipped to Europe for a final, slower year before bottling in 2021 at five years old. It comes out at cask strength, 57.18% ABV, in a 700ml bottle, with no coloring, no added sugar and no flavoring. The published notes run to dried fruit, black pepper, tobacco, oak spice, soft smoke, chocolate and cinnamon on the nose, with vanilla, sugar cane, orange, caramel, cream and baking spices on the palate that linger into the finish. A limited bottling of Jamaican pot still at full strength.
