Transcontinental Rum Line Single Cask Series Jamaica 2012
Transcontinental Rum Line is La Maison du Whisky's independent rum label, launched in 2016 to bottle single-origin rums with a stated vintage, a stated split between tropical and continental aging, and no additives. The Single Cask Series takes that a step further, drawing one barrel at a time and bottling it without blending. This Jamaica 2012 single cask was distilled at Hampden Estate in Trelawny parish, a distillery founded in the 1750s, family-owned for roughly 250 years, and famous for the heaviest, most ester-rich pot still rums on the island. It is the United States release of the series, drawn from Cask D and bottled at seven years old in a 750ml bottle, with the bulk of its maturation, a little over four years, spent in the cool continental climate of Europe after its first years in Jamaica. Hampden's house character is unmistakable even at a modest age, the funky, high-ester profile of overripe fruit and flambéed banana that reviewers consistently describe in the distillery's casks from this vintage, carried by a long, warming finish. A single barrel from one of the world's great rum distilleries.
