It's made simply: bitter and sweet orange peel steeped with herbs and spices (cardamom, caraway, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, gentian) in alcohol, with no caramel coloring or dyes added, which is why it pours a clear, light gold rather than the deeper orange-red found in some competitors. The nose opens with a traditional marmalade scent before warm spice takes over — cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove layered over the citrus. On the palate, that spice keeps leading the way: cardamom and a distinct caraway kick (almost aquavit-like) arrive first, with true orange peel oil closing things out.
