Mainland 10 Year Louisiana Rum
Mainland Rum is an independent American rum bottler founded by Seth Benhaim, the entrepreneur behind Broken Barrel Whiskey, built around rare, discontinued and well-aged single barrels sourced from distilleries across the continental U.S., with no blending, no dilution and no additives in any release. This Louisiana bottling was distilled in September 2014 at Louisiana Spirits in Lacassine, the home of Bayou Rum, from unrefined Louisiana sugarcane and Grade A molasses, then aged more than ten years in a 53-gallon ex-bourbon barrel with a #4 char before bottling in May 2025. It goes into the bottle at full barrel proof, 60.4% ABV (120.8 proof), with no sugar, coloring or chill filtration, and the single barrel yielded just 225 bottles. The brand points to charred oak and vanilla with a savory, umami finish from pot-still production. Reviewers have found toasted brown sugar, sweet vanilla and a hint of coconut on the nose with toasted nuts and leather underneath, then brown sugar, buttery vanilla and developing black pepper on the palate, with banana taffy, tobacco and maple syrup turning up as it opens. A long-aged, cask-strength look at Gulf Coast rum from a barrel that won't be repeated.
