Mainland Rum launched in May 2025 with a mission most of the industry had overlooked: proving that American rum deserves the same respect as an independent Scotch bottling. Founder Seth Benhaim, previously behind Broken Barrel Whiskey and Infuse Spirits Vodka, built the company after realizing that while imported rum accounts for 85-90% of what Americans drink, the country's own craft distilleries were quietly making genuinely exceptional rum with no household name or go-to bottler to represent it — much of it diluted and flavored to move quickly rather than showcased on its own merits. Mainland's answer was to source single casks directly from standout American distilleries — debut releases included a 10-year-old from Louisiana and a 9-year-old from California, alongside Georgia and Florida expressions — and bottle everything at full barrel strength, never blended, with complete transparency about origin. The lineup has since expanded to include the company's first-ever unaged release, sourced from a Minnesota distillery using traditional Jamaican-style dunder and wild-yeast fermentation techniques. This is rum built for the same audience that takes single malt Scotch or Foursquare Exceptional Cask seriously.
