Mother Earth Brew Co. started with three homebrewers in a garage in 2008, became a family-run brewery in Vista, California by 2010, and added a second brewery in Nampa, Idaho in 2016, distributing through roughly 40 wholesalers in 18 states. Its flagship is Cali Creamin', a cream ale brewed with Madagascar vanilla, and Creamsicle was the first spin-off of that beer. The brewery put it through an extensive development program in 2018, tested it in the tap room and on limited draft, and then rolled it out year-round in August 2019, first on draft and then in 12-ounce six-pack cans that September. The idea is the orange-and-cream ice pop from the ice cream truck: the same light, vanilla-forward cream ale base, layered with orange and cream flavor, which the brewery calls liquid nostalgia. It keeps the light body and easy drinkability of the original Cali Creamin'. Creamsicle went on to become a permanent member of what Mother Earth calls its Cali family, which later grew to include Peaches & Cream. Serve it cold, on its own or alongside a backyard barbecue, and it's a good bridge beer for friends who don't usually reach for craft.
