Pusser's 15 Year Rum

Pusser's takes its name from naval slang: for over 300 years the British Royal Navy issued every crew member a daily tot of rum, and the ship's purser handed it out — "purser's rum" became "Pusser's." The 15 Year is not simply an older version of the Gunpowder Proof; it's always been a separate blend. Since the 2018 reformulation it's 100% Guyanese, blended and bottled in Guyana, heavily influenced by rum from the Port Mourant double wooden pot stills, in production since 1732, whose greenheart staves produce character no metal still can replicate. Aged 15 years in charred oak, bottled at 40% ABV. Difford's Guide called the old blend good and the new one great, noting the removal of Trinidadian rum eliminated a faint oil-paint note and left something drier. The Rum Howler scored it 93/100. Expect prunes, dried orchard fruit, treacle, cedar, cinnamon, and rolling tobacco on the nose, opening full-bodied and dry with burnt molasses, toffee, spicy vanilla oak, brazil nut, and sherry, finishing on balsamic and dry oaky spice. Two honest notes: independent testing found around 8g/L sugar despite additive-free claims, and most reviewers wish it were bottled stronger.
