Ve De Di Triple Sec Liqueur
Ve De Di Triple Sec is a Vietnamese orange liqueur from Về Để Đi, the Hanoi distillery founded in 2020 by poet and hospitality veteran Quan Hung Nguyen and Michael Rosen. Instead of Curaçao or Mediterranean oranges it uses green-skinned cam sành oranges from Hà Giang province in Vietnam's far north: the peels steep for 24 hours in a column-distilled spirit made from Red River rice, the infusion is redistilled in a pot still, and the result is sweetened with sugar from Nghe An. The producer describes zesty citrus oils, fresh-squeezed juice, candied peel and orange blossom on the nose, a punchy, oily palate of concentrated mandarin oil, and a finish with a slight earthy bitterness, and at 40% ABV it carries the strength of a Cointreau-style triple sec rather than a sweet, low-proof one, so it holds its own in a shaken drink.
