Woodford Reserve Barrel Strength Rye Whiskey 125.1 Proof is the first-ever barrel-strength rye from Woodford Reserve, released in September 2025 from the historic Brown-Forman distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. It takes Woodford's Kentucky-style rye mash bill of 53% rye, 33% corn and 14% malted barley, the same recipe as the standard Distiller's Select Rye, and bottles it straight from the barrel, non-chill filtered, at 125.1 proof.
Where the 90.4 proof Woodford Rye is soft and approachable, the barrel-strength version turns everything up. Woodford describes toasted oak, honeyed grain, dark baking spice and dried orange peel on the nose, caramel, vanilla bean, cracked black pepper, cinnamon and earthy rye spice on a rich, velvety palate, and a long finish of charred oak, cocoa and citrus zest. Breaking Bourbon found rye bread, grain, oak and baking spice on the nose with breakfast syrup, tobacco leaf and black peppercorn on a silky palate, noting it drinks gentler than its proof suggests. A limited release and the boldest rye Woodford has put its name on.
