Bruxo X is the everyday Bruxo — an 80/20 blend of espadín and barril mezcals, married after distillation, that Mezcal Reviews' drinkers call very approachable at a great price with zero bite. Bruxo means "wizard" in Portuguese, and the X is for the way Oaxaca and México are pronounced; the brand was built by a group of friends who fell for mezcal and its people. This edition is produced by mezcalero Juan Morales García in San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca: cultivated espadín and wild barril, an Agave karwinskii so thick-leaved that Oaxacans plant it as fencing, each pit-roasted over wood, crushed, naturally fermented, and copper-pot distilled, then blended and bottled at around 40% ABV. Mezcal Reviews describes a delicate nose of citrus and florals with peanut and jícama, then citrus peel, fruit, chamomile, minerality, and light honey on the palate — one drinker found tart lemonade and fruit roll-up sweetness, another was startled when coffee rose out of the finish.
