Leopold Bros. Gin No. 25 is a mandarin-orange gin from the Leopold family distillery in Denver. It uses green mandarins harvested in September and red mandarins harvested in late December from the orchards of Santa Catarina, Brazil, distilling each separately and blending them with juniper, orris root, Sri Lankan white pepper and South African rooibos tea over a barley-and-potato base. It is bottled at 47% ABV (94 proof).
The Gin Is In rated it 4 out of 5 and recommended it in its category, describing jammy orange citrus and parma violet on the nose with a hint of pink peppercorn, then tangerine and orange rind with violet through the mid-palate and a dry, spice-and-black-tea finish. Lighter on juniper than a classic gin, it shines with tonic or cola, in a Martini, and in a Clover Club, and it is a great summer sipping gin.
