Botanica Spiritvs is the gin of a biochemist. Farid Dormishian studied biochemistry at UC Berkeley, did his undergraduate research on fermentation, bartended his way through school at a bar that valued classic cocktails and homemade tinctures, worked as a biotech research scientist, and read obsessively about distillation, herbs, essential oils, and perfumery before founding Falcon Spirits in Richmond, California in 2011. Two years of tinkering later, in 2013, he released Botanica Spiritvs — and it won a Good Food Award in 2014. The gin reflects that background: a carefully built botanical bill over a clean base, distilled in small batches in the East Bay with a perfumer's attention to how aromatics layer. The Rum Howler scored it 85.5/100. Expect fresh juniper and bright citrus on the nose with floral and herbal notes underneath — lavender, coriander, a whisper of cardamom — opening into a smooth, balanced palate where the juniper stays present but shares the stage with citrus peel, soft florals, and gentle spice, finishing clean and aromatic. It's a Bay Area craft gin in the contemporary California mold: recognizably gin, but built for nuance rather than a juniper wall. A natural in a Martini, a Gimlet with fresh lime, or a G&T with a lemon twist — and the base for Falcon's Barrel Finished expression.
