Brooklyn Gin was among the first wave of American craft gins, launched in 2010 by Emil Jättne and Joe Santos — two Bacardi marketers who left to make something small and independent — and it's built on a decision most distillers won't make: fresh citrus, cut by hand, not dried peel. Five fresh citrus peels go into every batch — Eureka lemon, Persian lime, Key lime, Navel orange, and kumquat — alongside hand-cracked juniper, lavender, cocoa nibs, coriander, orris, and angelica, over a 100% American corn base distilled in a small copper pot still in batches of about 300 bottles. The whole process takes three days. Bottled at 40% ABV in one of the handsomest bottles in gin.
