Product Type: Mezcal
Size: 750mL
Region: Mexico
Description: Mezcal Rayu Espadin Joven is a artisanal mezcal produced by Isaias Martinez Juan in San Juan del Rio, Tlacolula, Oaxaca. It is made using a traditional process that involves cooking the agave in a volcanic underground conical oven, crushing it with a horse-drawn tahona, fermenting it naturally in pine wood vats, and distilling it twice in copper pot stills. The name "Rayu" comes from the Zapotec language spoken by the Oaxacan culture and translates to "bolt of lightning." Legend has it that the first agave plant was cooked through to the core by a lightning bolt and was given as a gift from the gods, leading to the creation of mezcal, which is known as the elixir of the gods. Mezcal Rayu is a sub-brand of Mezcal Yuu Baal.

Tasting Notes: This mezcal has slight blister notes with hints of fruit such as banana, mango, and pineapple, as well as a touch of caramel. It also has a fresh presence of aromatic herbs and spices, such as mint, peppers, and violets, which enclose its diverse flavors and invite you to have another sip. It is full of distinguished flavors that make it unique among other mezcal varieties. In the aftertaste, earth tones, roots, and a citric, fruity sensation can be detected.
