A good whiskey gift has three jobs: it should be something the person wouldn't buy for themselves, it should have a story you can tell when you hand it over, and it should actually be in stock when you go to order it. Every bottle below checks all three. They're sorted by budget, they're all under $100, and every one is on our shelf and ships fast to most states.

Four Roses Single Barrel
Four Roses makes ten distinct bourbon recipes, and the Single Barrel always uses the one called OBSV: a 60% corn, 35% rye, 5% malted barley mashbill with the "V" yeast strain, bottled at 100 proof from a single barrel. It's the most generous bourbon at this price, and the tall bottle with the rose medallion looks like it cost more than it did.
Michter's US*1 Small Batch Bourbon
Bottled at 91.4 proof in batches capped at around 20 barrels, with Michter's saying the barrels are often aged more than eight years, in fire-charred new American oak. A safe pick for someone who likes bourbon but doesn't chase allocations.
Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt
A blend of three Speyside single malts (Glenfiddich, Balvenie, and Kininvie, all from William Grant & Sons) with no grain whisky in it. The three brass monkeys on the bottle's shoulder stand for the three distilleries. For a Scotch drinker who mixes, or someone who's never had Scotch, this is the bottle.
1792 Bottled in Bond
Bottled-in-bond means one distillery, one distilling season, at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and exactly 100 proof. It's the oldest consumer-protection law in American spirits, and this is one of the best-priced bottles that carries it. Pair it with a copy of a bourbon book and you've built a gift.
$50 to $75
Eagle Rare 10 Year
Ten years in the barrel, 90 proof, from Buffalo Trace. It won the IWSC's first-ever Bourbon Trophy in 2013 and has been allocated ever since. Most people can't find it on a shelf, which is exactly what makes it a gift.
E.H. Taylor Small Batch
Bottled-in-bond at 100 proof and named for the man who fought for the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. It comes in a cardboard tube, so it's gift-wrapped before you touch it. Allocated, and usually gone the day it arrives anywhere else.
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Old Forester was one of six Kentucky distilleries with a federal permit to bottle "medicinal" whiskey during Prohibition, and it's the only bourbon sold continuously by the same company before, during, and after. The 1920 is bottled at 115 proof, which the distillery says mirrors what barrel-proof whiskey of that era tasted like. For the history buff.
Baker's 7 Year Single Barrel
Jim Beam's small-batch line includes Booker's, Knob Creek, Basil Hayden, and Baker's, and Baker's is the one people forget. Seven years old, one barrel per bottling. An under-the-radar gift for a bourbon drinker who thinks they've tried everything.
Compass Box The Peat Monster
For the smoke lover. Compass Box has been blending this since 2003 from Islay and Highland malts, including Laphroaig and Caol Ila components, bottled at 46% with no chill filtration and no added color. The name does the gifting for you.
$75 to $100
Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled-in-Bond
In 2019 this bottle won Best in Show Whiskey at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, only the second bourbon ever to do it. Ten years old, single barrel, bottled-in-bond at 100 proof, from Heaven Hill. It has been hard to find ever since. If the recipient follows whiskey at all, they know this one.
Nikka From the Barrel
A blend of more than 100 malt and grain whiskies from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, bottled at 51.4% in a squat square bottle that's become an icon. The US version is a full 750 ml, where the rest of the world gets 500 ml. The best Japanese whisky gift under $100, and it isn't close.
Bunnahabhain 12 Year
An Islay single malt with almost no peat, which surprises people who think Islay means smoke. Bottled at 46.3%, non-chill-filtered, natural color, from bourbon and sherry casks. It took Double Gold at the 2026 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Gold at the International Spirits Challenge two years running. For the Scotch drinker who already has Macallan.
WhistlePig 10 Year Rye
A 100% rye mashbill aged at least ten years and bottled at 100 proof. The rye is distilled in Canada and bottled at WhistlePig's farm in Vermont. It's the bottle that made American rye a luxury category, and the pig on the label makes it the easiest whiskey to recognize across a room.
The Macallan 12 Year Double Cask
The name everyone knows. Aged a minimum of 12 years in American and European oak casks seasoned with sherry in Jerez, bottled at 43% with natural color, and it comes in a gift box. If you don't know what the person drinks, this is the no-risk answer.
Blanton's Single Barrel
The bourbon gift. Introduced in 1984 as the first commercially sold single barrel bourbon, bottled at 93 proof from Buffalo Trace's Warehouse H, and topped with one of eight horse-and-jockey stoppers that together spell B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. It's allocated almost everywhere, and it's the one bottle on this list that makes someone gasp when they open it.
Only at Chips Liquor
Good Times Cigar Finish Single Barrel #395
A barrel we picked ourselves. Six-year-old MGP bourbon, finished in Cognac, Armagnac, and Oloroso sherry casks, and bottled at barrel strength (116 proof) with no water added. It's a one-barrel bottling; when these are gone, there won't be another #395. A gift nobody else can give.
