Tequila Ocho began in 2008 when Carlos Camarena — a fifth-generation agave farmer and third-generation tequilero whose family has been making tequila since 1937 — teamed up with the late Tomas Estes, the man widely credited with bringing tequila culture to Europe, to prove that terroir could matter in tequila the same way it does in fine wine. The result was the world's first single-estate tequila: every bottle names the exact field, its altitude, and the harvest year, and Ocho famously never repeats the same expression twice, having released over 35 distinct single-estate vintages across its four lines. The name "Ocho" (eight) carries layered meaning throughout the brand's history — from the number of years agave needs to fully ripen to the number of Camarena's own siblings. Originally made at Camarena's historic family distillery La Alteña, Ocho moved to its own purpose-built distillery, Tequilera Los Alambiques, in 2023, set on land that once belonged to Carlos's grandfather. Expect a distinctly mineral, iron-rich highland character across the Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo lineup, plus the newer Terroir Select vintages exploring broader highland regions — all completely additive-free.
