Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin is made by Black Forest Distillers in Germany with 47 botanicals, a third of them from the Black Forest, on a molasses base, and bottled at 47% ABV. The recipe traces to Montgomery Collins, a British officer who settled in the Black Forest after the war and sponsored a monkey named Max at the Berlin Zoo. Each year the distillery releases a limited Distiller's Cut with a rare 48th botanical, from woodruff to Pantelleria capers.
