Accenti Wines is the husband-and-wife project of James and Lorenza Bazzano Allen. Lorenza studied viticulture and enology in Italy, completed a master's program in France and worked harvests in Portugal and Australia before the two reconnected in California at Failla; James trained in horticulture and viticulture across several countries. They eloped at sunset on a vineyard during harvest, and the Accenti label grew out of experimental lots they made while working for other wineries.
The couple farms a handful of tiny vineyards around Napa Valley and makes the wines in Sonoma County. Farming is regenerative and organic with no tractors, no irrigation and no soil disruption, using winter cover crops to rebuild the soil. In the cellar they rely on spontaneous fermentation, low extraction and moderate oak, add no yeast, bacteria, tannins or enzymes, and keep each lot on its lees until bottling so little or no sulfur is needed.
Alongside Carignan, Riesling, Verdelho, Albariño, rosé and Cabernet, Accenti makes small-batch vermouths, including a Riesling-and-Cortese Dry Vermouth built with Sebastopol herbalists Big Spoon on mugwort, chamomile, orange peel and Douglas fir, and a seasonal Inverno.
