6 O'clock Sloe Gin

Sloe gin is where Bramley & Gage started. Founders Edward Bramley Kain and Penelope Gage were West Country fruit farmers who began steeping their leftover crop in spirit in the 1980s, and by the time their children Michael and Felicity took over the distillery in 2007 and created 6 O'clock Gin, the family had decades of fruit-liqueur craft behind them. This is the traditional English classic done properly: wild hedgerow sloes — the small, astringent fruit of the blackthorn, hand-picked in autumn — steeped in the distillery's own 6 O'clock London Dry Gin at a high sloe-to-gin ratio with plenty of sugar, then patiently matured for at least six months in small batches, bottled at 26% ABV. Gin Foundry found the sloes retain a just-picked tartness alongside an earthiness that forms a very outdoorsy taste — the sort of warming flask that gets carried on a winter shoot — fresh, musky, and a touch more rugged than the sweeter supermarket sloe gins. Expect deep ruby color with plum, almond, and a whisper of cherry stone on the nose, opening into a rich, fruity palate balanced between sweetness and the sloe's natural sharpness, finishing long and warming.
