Baker's is named for Baker Beam, grandnephew of Jim Beam and cousin to Booker Noe, a soft-spoken distiller who spent decades at the Clermont plant and held three fundamental rules for bourbon: age it at least seven years to pull the vanilla out of the charred oak, make sure it carries substantial flavor, and when he tries it, he'd better like it. In 1992 Booker Noe launched it as one of the four founding bourbons of the Small Batch Collection alongside Knob Creek, Booker's, and Basil Hayden — and for years it was the overlooked sibling, a 7-year small batch slotted awkwardly between Knob Creek and Booker's. That changed in late 2019, when Beam relaunched Baker's as a single barrel: every bottle from one specific barrel, aged a minimum of seven years at 107 proof, with barrel number, rickhouse, and exact age printed on the neck. Enthusiasts noticed — barrels routinely land at eight or nine years, and the online barrel explorer lets you look up your bottle's floor and rack. Distilled to a lower proof from a 77% corn, 13% rye, 10% barley mash bill with the family's decades-old jug yeast, it delivers the signature Beam nuttiness alongside deep vanilla, caramel, fruit, and oak. The range now includes a 13 Year single barrel and a High Rye expression, both at 107. The quiet one in the family, finally getting its due.
