Bardstown Bourbon Company was built on a premise most Kentucky distilleries would find heretical: total transparency about what's in the bottle and where it came from. Founded in 2014 and distilling since September 2016 on a 100-acre campus in the heart of bourbon country, it operates one of the largest and most technically advanced distilleries in the state — much of its capacity is contract work for other brands, which makes it the rare producer that openly embraces sourcing as part of its identity. The blending is led by Dan Callaway, a classically trained musician and sommelier turned Master Blender, and the lineup reads as a documented evolution. The Fusion Series (2019-2022) married the distillery's young estate whiskey with older sourced Kentucky bourbon, mash bills printed on every label, growing more estate-heavy each release until the stock came of age. In 2023 it gave way to the Origin Series: 100% estate-distilled six-year Bourbon, a wheated Bottled-in-Bond, and a Rye finished on alternating toasted oak and cherry wood staves. The Discovery Series remains the flagship of pure blending craft — rare, well-aged sourced barrels composed by intuition — while the Collaborative Series pushes into exotic finishes with Armagnac house Château de Laubade, Chilean wine, and infrared-toasted cherry oak, one of which landed the company on 60 Minutes. Modern bourbon, honest about its ingredients.
