Bounty is called "The Spirit of Saint Lucia," and it's earned the title — the best-selling rum on the island and the first branded rum ever produced by St. Lucia Distillers. Its origin is the island's rum history in miniature: sugar arrived in the late 1700s and drove the economy for two centuries, until European sugar beet undercut the Caribbean market and left only two distilleries standing by the 1950s. One belonged to the Barnard family, who had settled on Saint Lucia in the 1830s and built their Dennery distillery in 1931; the other was the Geest family's Roseau Bay operation. In 1972 the two merged to form St. Lucia Distillers in the Roseau Valley, and Bounty was the brand they launched. It remains the workhorse of a house that also produces Chairman's Reserve and Admiral Rodney — unpretentious, affordable, and genuinely useful. Molasses ferments roughly 36 hours in open tanks before distillation, primarily on a Coffey column still with pot still components blended in at different ratios depending on the expression. The range covers white, gold, dark, spiced, and flavored rums, with the Dark blending three-year column and pot still rums aged in ex-bourbon barrels at 43% ABV. A Caribbean back-bar staple that's quietly gaining ground in the US cocktail scene.
