Brucato Amaro was founded in San Francisco by James and Sierra Clark, built around a simple but genuinely original idea: amaro as a love letter to California's landscapes rather than an imitation of Italy's. Each core expression captures a different ecosystem — Chaparral, a Green Chartreuse alternative built on yerba santa, spearmint, and California bay leaf, took Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition two years running; Woodlands layers elderberry, cocoa nib, and black fig into a Gold Medal-winning tribute to the coastal live oak forests; Orchards celebrates the state's stone fruit bounty; and Fields, the newest addition, goes fully savory with artichoke leaf, red beet, rhubarb root, and fenugreek, honoring the farming communities behind John G. Brucato's founding of San Francisco's Farmers Market in 1943. Everything starts from California grape brandy, macerated and rested on toasted oak. Beyond the core four, the Reserve Series ages Chaparral and Woodlands in rye whiskey and bourbon barrels for added depth, while the Experimental Series explores genuinely unusual territory like green almond and kumquat liqueurs, most in tiny, thousand-liter runs. A genuinely distinct American voice in a category long dominated by European tradition.
