Carlito's is a small-label 100% blue Weber agave tequila made at NOM 1598 in the Los Valles region of southern Jalisco, and it's the kind of bottle we like to find: no celebrity, no crystal decanter, just honestly made tequila at a price that lets you actually use it. The agave is cooked in an autoclave and crushed on a roller mill, the juice ferments spontaneously in open stainless tanks with nothing added, and the wash is double distilled in stainless pot stills fitted with copper coils. The result has the character of a good valley tequila: cooked agave up front, a briny, mineral edge, black pepper, and a thick, oily texture that carries through the whole line. The Blanco is unaged and built for margaritas, ranch waters, and palomas. The Reposado rests in American white oak long enough to pick up vanilla and a little caramel without going soft. The Añejo spends more than a year in the same oak and comes out with caramel, vanilla, and baking spice over the agave, a sipper and an Añejo Old Fashioned base that costs a fraction of the big names. All three are bottled at 40% ABV.
