Carpano is where vermouth began. In 1786 Antonio Benedetto Carpano opened a shop in Turin and began infusing Moscato wine with wormwood and a blend of herbs and spices, creating the first commercial vermouth and, with it, the Italian aperitivo tradition. The house is now part of Fratelli Branca, and its range remains a bartender's benchmark: Carpano Classico from the original recipe, the lush and vanilla-rich Antica Formula, the elegant and perfumed Carpano Bianco, and Carpano Dry, developed with world champion sommelier Luca Gardini.
