Distillerie du Peyrat is the Rault family's distillery in Houlette, a small village on the Tourtrat river about 10 km east of the town of Cognac. The family has been distilling in the Charentes since 1705 and spent decades producing eau-de-vie for the big houses before Jean-François Rault began bottling under his own name. He converted to organic farming in 1998, making Peyrat one of the first sizeable organic Cognac producers, and it became the top-selling organic Cognac label in the United States. His sons now run the business with him as the fifth generation.
The family farms 30 hectares of Ugni Blanc in the Fins Bois cru a few kilometres from Grande Champagne, supplemented by a network of organic partner growers, and the Cognacs are certified by Ecocert and the USDA. Wines are distilled on their lees in Charentais copper pot stills using the house's fatty distillation, which builds fruity esters, then aged in French oak. The style is subtle and fruity, and the distillery runs on solar panels, recycles its distillation residues and plants hedgerows for wildlife.
The range includes the Organic Selection, Rare Prestige VSOP, XO blends of Fins Bois and Petite Champagne, and limited single-cask Folle Blanche vintages. Browse our full Distillerie du Peyrat collection with fast nationwide shipping delivered straight to your door.
