El Mayor is a tequila brand launched in 1998 by the Lux family of Luxco, the St. Louis spirits company, in partnership with the Gonzalez family of Jalisco, who have been making tequila for more than 150 years. Since 2017 it has been made at Destiladora Gonzalez Lux, the distillery the two families built just outside Arandas in the Jalisco highlands, under master distiller Rodolfo Gonzalez, with his daughter Grace as the face of the brand.

El Mayor is made from 100 percent estate-grown Blue Weber agave and follows the methods of the Gonzalez family's older Destiladora Gonzalez Gonzalez, with the distillery handling the process from field to bottle. The aged expressions rest in oak, and the brand has used its anniversary and Masters Collection releases to explore longer aging and alternative finishes, including an Extra Añejo pulled from some of the oldest barrel stock at the distillery and aged 39 months in American oak bourbon barrels.
