Favia was founded in 2003 by husband-and-wife team Andy Erickson and Annie Favia, two of Napa's most sought-after talents. Erickson's winemaking resume runs through Screaming Eagle, Harlan, Dalla Valle, Ovid and Mayacamas, while Annie spent years farming for David Abreu. Based at the historic Carbone winery in Coombsville, their home estate is dry-farmed and organically managed with an eye toward native ecology, and production is tiny and site-specific.
The Favia Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the cool volcanic amphitheater southeast of the city of Napa, aged 22 months in French oak, half new, then a further year in bottle. It is a wine of mountain-like structure and perfume: creme de cassis, boysenberry, graphite, lavender oil, crushed rock and rose petal, with the 2021 earning 98 points from The Wine Independent and Decanter. The Favia Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon draws from benchland and hillside parcels on Oakville's gravelly alluvial fans, native-yeast fermented and aged about 20 months in French oak for deep cassis, violets, cocoa and sweet tobacco.
