Heitz Cellar has been a Napa Valley benchmark since Joe and Alice Heitz founded it in 1961, and with the 1966 vintage it bottled the valley's first vineyard-designated Cabernet Sauvignon, Martha's Vineyard. Owned by the Lawrence family since 2018 and led by Director of Winemaking Brittany Sherwood, the estate farms organically and still favors long aging in large American oak casks and extended bottle rest before release.
The Heitz Cellar Martha's Vineyard Cabernet, from the western bench of Oakville, carries its signature mint and cedar from bordering eucalyptus trees and has earned 96 points from Wine Spectator. Trailside Vineyard, an 85-acre site on the eastern Rutherford bench, yields a sleek, focused Cabernet of damson plum, dark cherry and cedar, and we carry both current and library vintages. Linda Falls Vineyard on Howell Mountain adds a firmer, more mineral expression with dense mountain tannin, while the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blends estate lots from six districts at a restrained 13.5% ABV, with the 2021 scoring 99 points from Decanter.
