KIN is a small, family-run whiskey brand from Los Angeles. Founder Bernard Lax spent years sourcing moonshine from Georgia with his best friend before making his own in a makeshift Venice Beach distillery; once the recipe was dialed in, he contract-distilled it in California so he could share it with the state. His son Taylor Lax, a working bartender, and nephew Eric joined to grow the brand, selling bottles out of their car before KIN landed in more than 100 California bars and restaurants. Bernard passed away unexpectedly while the family was developing its banana liqueur, and Taylor continues his father's work today.
The house style is clean and approachable. KIN's spirits are made from American-grown corn, rye and barley, distilled in copper stills, cut with spring water and run through a proprietary filtration system that the brand credits for removing the harsh edge common to young whiskey. Everything is bottled at a mixable 80 proof except the liqueur.
The range covers KIN White Whiskey, the unaged flagship inspired by Deep South moonshine culture; KIN Bourbon, aged in new American oak; and KIN A-Peel, a banana liqueur made by infusing overripe bananas into the white whiskey.
