Leviathan was launched in 2004 by Andy Erickson, the Napa winemaker behind Favia and the man who has made or consulted on wines for Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and Ovid. The goal was simple: one Cabernet-based blend each vintage, free from appellation restraints and assembled from notable vineyards across California, with Nicole Hayden managing grower relations.
The Leviathan California Cabernet Sauvignon is built around Cabernet with supporting portions of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, much of it from rocky hillside sites with volcanic soils that give the wine its power. It is aged in French oak and bottled at 14.8% ABV. Erickson's notes describe layered aromas of Luxardo cherry and black currant with leather, coffee, wet slate, star anise and vanilla bean, and a structured, composed palate of fine tannins and earthy, savory depth that is approachable now yet built to cellar. Recent vintages have earned mid-90s scores from James Suckling and other critics.
Leviathan delivers cult-Napa winemaking pedigree at a fraction of the price of Erickson's famous clients. Browse our full Leviathan collection with fast nationwide shipping delivered straight to your door.
