Normandin-Mercier was founded in 1872 by Jules Normandin, a cognac broker who married into the Mercier family and made his mother-in-law a business partner, giving the house its double-barreled name. In 1885 the family purchased Château de la Péraudière at Dompierre-sur-Mer, just east of La Rochelle, where the cool, humid Atlantic air slows evaporation and allows exceptionally long, gentle aging. The house is still family-run today by Edouard, Jean-Marie and Audrey Normandin.
Unlike estate producers, Normandin-Mercier has never owned vineyards. It works as a négociant-éleveur, buying young eaux-de-vie exclusively from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne growers and aging them in its own cellars at the château. After decades of supplying the large houses in bulk, Jean-Marie Normandin began bottling under the family name in 1979, drawing on stocks that in some cases date back to the late 19th century.
The range includes a VSOP Petite Champagne, Vieille Fine Champagne, XO Grande Champagne, a 1976 Petite Champagne vintage, Extra bottlings from both crus, La Péraudière Grande Champagne and the Très Vieille Grande Champagne drawn from pre-1914 casks. The style favors elegance, length and pronounced rancio over oak. Browse our full Normandin-Mercier collection with fast nationwide shipping delivered straight to your door.
