Roots Craft Liqueurs was founded in 2013 by brothers Manos and Nikolas Smyrlakis, a former P&G manager and an aerospace engineer, whose maternal family has run N.G. Callicounis Distillery in Kalamata since 1850, Greece's oldest continuously operating distillery. They set out to bottle Greece's herbal remedies and regional spirits for export, and Roots now sells in more than 20 markets and is poured at bars including The Savoy's American Bar and Angel's Share.

Every liqueur is handcrafted at Callicounis from 100% natural Greek ingredients following age-old recipes. Mastic is distilled with Chios mastiha resin at 28% ABV, Rakomelo blends grape-pomace raki with Mani thyme honey, cinnamon and clove with no added sugar, and Kanela revives a 15th-century Ionian tentura of Ceylon cinnamon and clove.
