Simi Winery was founded in Healdsburg in 1876 by Italian immigrant brothers Giuseppe and Pietro Simi, making it one of the longest continuously operating wineries in California. Isabelle Simi took the reins at age 18 in 1904 and ran the winery for more than 60 years, keeping it alive through Prohibition and setting a tradition of female leadership that continued with pioneering winemakers Mary Ann Graf and Zelma Long. Nearly 150 years on, Simi remains a Sonoma County benchmark for reliable, well-priced wine.
The Simi California Cabernet Sauvignon is the winery's approachable entry point, built on Cabernet with a touch of complementary red varieties and aged in a mix of French and American oak for soft, rounded tannin. At 13.5% alcohol it stays light-to-medium bodied and food friendly, with raspberry, cassis, red cherry, dried herbs and black olive aromas leading into a velvety, vibrant palate of black cherry and blackberry. The Beverage Testing Institute awarded the 2022 a Gold Medal at 91 points.
