Traveller is the first celebrity collaboration Buffalo Trace has ever put its name on, and it earned that by not being a rush job. Chris Stapleton, the 12-time Grammy winner from Lexington, Kentucky, had a genuine history with the distillery long before any business conversation — he was introduced to E.H. Taylor while recording his debut album, and Buffalo Trace bottles became a fixture backstage and on his home bar. That album, released in 2015, was called Traveller, and the whiskey takes its name from it. Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley, who has spent decades at Buffalo Trace, built more than 50 different blends before sending the top handful to Stapleton, who tasted through them with friends and his bass player. Everyone landed on the same one — Blend No. 40, which is now printed on every bottle. Both men are listed as co-founders. The whiskey is a blend drawn from Sazerac's award-winning distilleries, bottled at 90 proof deliberately, aiming for approachability without losing character: oak, sweet maple, tart currant, and leather over vanilla, aged fruit, and buttery shortbread. It became the most awarded super premium whiskey release of 2024 and the first-ever Official Whiskey of Major League Baseball. A Full Proof expression at 121 proof followed for drinkers who want the same blend with the volume up.
