Foursquare is the most sought-after rum distillery in Barbados, and its Exceptional Cask Selection bottles are some of the hardest rums to find online once a release sells through. This guide lists every Foursquare rum Chips Liquor has in stock right now, explains what each one is, and covers the two brands made at Foursquare that fly under the radar. Everything here ships fast to most states.

Why Foursquare
Foursquare Rum Distillery sits at Four Roads in the parish of St. Philip, on the southeast side of Barbados. The family company behind it, R.L. Seale & Co., dates to 1926, but the distillery is young: the Seale family took over a closed sugar factory in 1995 and started distilling in 1996. Fourth-generation master distiller Richard Seale runs it today.
Three things define the house style. The distillery runs both double-retort copper pot stills and a twin-column Coffey still, and nearly every premium release blends the two, which Foursquare calls a "single blended rum." Fermentation uses locally sourced molasses. And nothing is added after distillation: no sugar, no coloring, no flavoring. That last point is why Richard Seale has become the industry's loudest advocate for honest labeling, and why Foursquare, Mount Gay, and St. Nicholas Abbey are pushing for a Barbados geographical indication that would ban additives in anything labeled Barbados rum.
The distillery won the IWSC Rum Producer Trophy in 2024, and at the 2026 IWSC five Foursquare rums scored 98 points.
The Exceptional Cask Selection
The Exceptional Cask Selection (ECS) is the series that made Foursquare famous among collectors. Each release is a numbered "Mark," bottled only when Seale judged a batch exceptional. Mark I was a 1998 vintage released in 2008. The series ended in March 2026 at Mark XXXI with a release named, fittingly, Epilogue. There is no successor series announced.
That matters for buyers: every ECS bottle still on a shelf is the last of its kind. Here's what we have.
Foursquare Epilogue (Mark XXXI)
The final ECS release and the oldest rum in the series: 19 years, aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks, bottled at 57% ABV, pot and column blend. It scored 98 points and a Gold Outstanding medal at the 2026 IWSC. If you buy one Foursquare this year, this is the one with the most history behind it.
Foursquare Penultimus (Mark XXX)
The second-to-last chapter, as the name says. A 15-year rum that uses Moscatel wine casks for the first time in the series, alongside ex-bourbon, bottled at 57%. Another 98-point Gold Outstanding at the 2026 IWSC.
Foursquare Convocation (Mark XXVIII)
Released in March 2025. A 14-year blend of two components, one aged in ex-bourbon and one aged in Madeira casks for the full 14 years, bottled at 62% ABV. This is the highest-proof bottle we currently stock from the series.
Foursquare Magisterium (Mark XXVI)
Released in September 2024. A 16-year pot and column blend aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, bottled at 58%.
Foursquare's Everyday Bottles
You don't have to spend $150 to drink Foursquare rum. Two of the best-value bottles in the shop come from the same stills.
Probitas White Rum
A joint project between Foursquare and Hampden Estate in Jamaica, billed as the first direct collaboration between distilleries on two different Caribbean islands. It blends unaged Hampden pot still rum with unaged Foursquare column rum and two-year-old Foursquare pot still rum, and is bottled at Foursquare at 47% ABV. No additives. It's the white rum we recommend most often for Daiquiris, and it's a fraction of the price of anything in the ECS.
Probitas Blended Dark Rum
The aged follow-up to Probitas White, carrying the same name and the same no-additives approach. Built for cocktails that call for a dark blended rum, at a price that makes it an easy upgrade over mass-market dark rums.
Also Made at Foursquare: The Real McCoy
Foursquare doesn't just bottle under its own name. The Real McCoy is an American brand founded by filmmaker Bailey Pryor after he made a documentary about Bill McCoy, the Prohibition-era rum runner whose unadulterated liquor gave us the phrase "the real McCoy." The rum is distilled and aged at Foursquare, blended from pot and column spirit, and aged in ex-bourbon American oak.
- The Real McCoy 3 Year: the white expression. An affordable Foursquare base for mixing.
- The Real McCoy 5 Year: aged five years in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 40% ABV. The cheapest way to taste aged Foursquare distillate.
Foursquare also makes the Barbados heritage brands Doorly's, R.L. Seale's, Old Brigand, and E.S.A. Field. We're not currently stocking Doorly's, but it's worth knowing that any bottle with those names on it comes from the same distillery.
Which Foursquare to Buy
- Cocktails: Probitas White for Daiquiris, Probitas Dark or Real McCoy 5 for anything with juice or tiki syrups.
- First sipping bottle: Magisterium. The sherry influence makes it the most approachable ECS at full proof.
- High-proof fan: Convocation at 62%.
- Collector: Epilogue and Penultimus, the last two Marks ever released.
How to Drink the ECS Bottles
Every ECS release is bottled at cask strength or close to it, so start neat in a small glass and give it a few minutes. Then add water a few drops at a time. Foursquare rums are bottled without chill filtration, so a little water pulls more aroma to the surface the same way it does with cask-strength whisky. Most people land somewhere between 48% and 52% as a sweet spot for the 57% to 62% bottlings. Skip ice until you've found the dilution you like, and keep the Probitas and Real McCoy bottles for the shaker.
Shipping Foursquare From Chips Liquor
Every bottle above is in stock at our Pacific Beach shop in San Diego and ships fast to most states. ECS releases don't get restocked once they're gone, so what's listed is what's left. For Mount Gay, St. Nicholas Abbey, and the rest of the island, see our full Barbados rum collection.
