100 Años Reposado Tequila
100 Años Reposado is the oak-rested tequila from Casa Sauza, the house founded by Don Cenobio Sauza in 1873 in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, and named for the hundred years of family tequila-making the brand had behind it when it launched. Like the Blanco it is produced at La Perseverancia, NOM 1102, home of Sauza and Hornitos, from blue Weber agave that is cooked, crushed, fermented and double distilled in column stills; the difference is that the Reposado then rests in oak barrels for at least two months, which gives it its golden color and rounds the agave with a layer of vanilla, light caramel and a touch of wood spice. Bottled at 40% ABV and made with blue agave rather than 100 percent agave, it is a value tequila with a little more warmth than the Blanco, the one to reach for when a margarita or a cadillac wants some body, an old fashioned wants a tequila base, or someone at the party asks for a shot that goes down easy. Sauza describes a nose of cooked agave, vanilla and oak, a smooth, lightly sweet palate, and a medium finish with gentle spice. It comes in the brand's tall glass bottle with the blue agave medallion and navy cap, 750ml, natural cork.
