Auctioneer Wines honors Michael Broadbent, the 24th Master of Wine, whose book Wine Tasting set the standard for professional evaluation, who logged notes on more than 90,000 wines across 36 years of Decanter columns, and who pioneered the modern fine-wine auction when he founded Christie's wine department in 1966. The Napa Valley label, made with his son Bartholomew Broadbent, aims for wines that would have earned a spot in his cellar. The Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Howell Mountain, the Napa appellation that sits above the fog line at 1,400 to 2,200 feet, where thin volcanic and red clay soils produce small berries, thick skins and intense color and tannin. The wine is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak barrels, a meaningful share new, and bottled around 14.5% ABV. Expect classic mountain Cabernet: blackberry, cassis and black cherry with cedar, graphite, dried herbs and a dusting of cocoa, framed by firm, ripe tannins and a long, structured finish that rewards decanting now or cellaring for a decade. Pair it with grilled ribeye, venison or roasted portobello. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release. 750ml bottle.
