Patrón XO Cafe is a coffee liqueur built on 100% agave Patrón Silver rather than neutral spirit — Difford's notes that's the rare exception in the category — blended with fine Arabica coffee. Patrón was founded in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley and built Hacienda Patrón, NOM 1492, in Atotonilco el Alto in the Los Altos highlands; Bacardí bought it in 2018 for $5.1 billion, and XO Cafe launched in 1992 as the house's coffee liqueur, discontinued in 2021 and brought back by demand. It's Patrón Silver tequila — 100% highland blue Weber agave — blended with the natural essence of Arabica coffee and bottled at 35% ABV, drier and stronger than a typical coffee liqueur and far less sweet. The house: a harmonious blend of super-premium Patrón and the rich flavors of fine Arabica coffee. Expect a nose of dark roasted coffee, chocolate, and a faint cooked agave, opening into a dry, medium-sweet palate of espresso, cocoa, and vanilla with the tequila's pepper underneath and a clean, roasty finish.
