Aguerrido Papalote Tomás Gutiérrez Cupreata Mezcal
Aguerrido Papalote is an artisanal mezcal from the state of Guerrero, Mexico, made by maestro mezcalero Tomás Gutiérrez from Agave cupreata, known locally as papalote. Cupreata grows wild on the rugged hillsides of Guerrero and cannot be cultivated commercially, so every batch depends on the mezcalero's knowledge of the land and the plant.
The agave is roasted in an earthen pit, fermented naturally, and distilled the traditional way, then bottled at 46% ABV. It opens with earthiness, subtle smoke, and roasted agave, and the palate is a well-balanced fusion of agave sweetness, gentle smoke, and the mineral, herbal character that makes Guerrero mezcal so distinctive, leading to a long, satisfying finish of agave, earth, and smoke. Sip it neat from a copita to appreciate it fully. This 750 ml bottle is a rare find for agave enthusiasts.
