Alias Straight Rye Whiskey is a value rye from Ross & Squibb, the Lawrenceburg, Indiana distillery formerly known as MGP, which took over the Luxco portfolio in 2021. Instead of MGP's famous 95/5 rye, Alias uses a high-corn recipe of 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% malted barley, aged at least four years as a straight whiskey and bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
Drinkhacker rated it a B+ and called it "a surprisingly solid value," finding raw honey, caramel corn and orchard fruit on the nose, bold rye spice moving to brown butter, cinnamon sugar and marshmallow on the palate, and a finish of caramel sauce, drying oak and mint. The corn-heavy mashbill makes it rounder and sweeter than a typical Indiana rye, which is exactly what you want in an everyday Manhattan or Old Fashioned rye at this price.
