Aultmore 18 Year Speyside Single Malt Scotch
Aultmore 18 Year Old is a mature release from a Speyside distillery that stayed under the radar for over a century. Founded in 1896 near Keith on the edge of the Foggie Moss, Aultmore sent nearly all of its whisky into Dewar's blends until Bacardi launched it as a single malt in 2014. The 18 Year is matured in American oak, bottled at 92 proof and non-chill-filtered.
The Whiskey Wash scored it 8 out of 10 and found fresh hay, ripe red apple, peach, orange and lemon citrus on the nose with honey fudge, shortbread and vanilla underneath. The palate opens with caramel and citrus before a wave of oak spice, white pepper, cinnamon, ginger and clove, with a waxy mouthfeel and a medium finish of pear, peach and mint. Unpeated, elegant and quietly complex, it is a connoisseur's Speyside for fans of Clynelish or Glencadam.
