Bache-Gabrielsen is a Norwegian-founded cognac house established in 1905 and still family-run, and this release ages its cognac in French Limousin oak before finishing it in American oak casks from Tennessee. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
The American oak brings a bourbon-like sweetness that most cognac never sees: vanilla, toasted oak and caramel on the nose, a rounded palate of rich vanilla, sweet spice and ripe fruit over the cognac's grape elegance, and a long, warm finish. It is a natural crossover for bourbon drinkers, superb neat or over a big cube, and it makes an excellent Old Fashioned or Vieux Carré.
