Balcones Cataleja Texas Single Malt Whisky is the sherry-matured showpiece from Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas, released to mark the distillery's fifteenth anniversary. Cataleja is a loose Spanish translation of spyglass, a nod to the makers who came before, and the whisky is one of the most complex Balcones has ever bottled. It is made from 100% Golden Promise malted barley, aged first in refill casks for about three years, then moved into decommissioned sherry solera puncheons of four kinds: Moscatel, Amontillado Dulce, Oloroso and Palo Cortado. It is bottled at 118 proof.
