Triple distilled at the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, it ages for at least sixteen years in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry butts, then spends several months finishing in Port pipes. It is bottled at 80 proof.
The three woods layer up: honey, vanilla and malt from bourbon, dried fruit and nuts from sherry, and a red-berry richness from the Port. The palate is full and smooth with dark fruit, toffee and a hint of spice, and the finish is long and warming. It is a whiskey for slow sipping neat.
