Clonakilty Double Oak Finish Irish Whiskey is the flagship from Clonakilty Distillery in West Cork, where the Scully family farm supplies the barley and the whiskey matures in a warehouse on the Atlantic coast. It is a blend of grain and malt whiskeys first aged in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in two kinds of oak: virgin American oak and shaved, toasted and re-charred red wine casks. It is bottled at 43.6% ABV (87.2 proof).
The bourbon wood sets down vanilla, caramel and toasted oak; the double finish adds spice, dried fruit and a touch of dark chocolate with a rich, velvety texture. It is balanced and easy to sip neat, and the extra oak gives it enough backbone for an Old Fashioned.
