Combier Liqueur de Peche de Vigne
Combier Liqueur de Pêche de Vigne is a peach liqueur from Distillerie Combier in Saumur, the oldest working distillery in the Loire Valley, founded in 1834 by confectioner Jean-Baptiste Combier and run since 1994 by Franck Choisne, who joined as general manager at 26 and later bought the house from the Bollinger group. The pêche de vigne is the vine peach, the small red-fleshed peach traditionally grown among the vines in France rather than in orchards, and Combier makes the liqueur from an infusion of these Loire Valley peaches prepared in the distillery's own cellars with neutral alcohol, then sweetened. Combier's published notes describe it as bright orange in the glass, with a fragrant, delicate nose of ripe vine peaches and a sweet, fruity palate with a velvety texture; the distillery suggests it as a digestif, in cocktails, topped with sparkling wine, or with pastry. A small measure carries a long way in a drink, so it does the peach work in a Bellini with prosecco or a peach-forward whisky sour without turning the glass into syrup.
