Compass Box The Story of the Spaniard Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
The Story of the Spaniard is Compass Box's sherry-and-wine-cask whisky, a blended malt in which roughly half the components were aged in ex-sherry casks and a quarter in ex-Spanish red wine casks. John Glaser's London blending house built it as a tribute to Spain's influence on Scotch, and it fills the sherried slot in the core range without the heaviness of a traditional sherry bomb.
Bottled at 86 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, it pours light amber and offers toasted English muffin with marmalade, orange, quince and cinnamon on the nose, then honey, orange zest, dried apricot, tobacco leaf and a whisper of peat on the palate, finishing with dried oak and black tea. The Whiskey Wash scored it 8 out of 10 and recommended it as a great introduction to Scotch, especially with food.
