Don Valente Round Bottle Añejo Tequila
Don Valente is made at the distillery of Marco Antonio Jáuregui Huerta, NOM 1450, in El Arenal, Jalisco, in the lowlands of the Tequila Valley. This añejo comes in the brand's round decanter. The process is traditional: 100% blue Weber agave is slow-cooked in brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel, and double distilled in copper pot stills. Don Valente's añejo then rests for two years in white oak barrels, well beyond the one-year minimum for the category, and is bottled at 40% ABV. The producer describes a limited-production tequila with a dark yellow color with golden tones, and aromas of cooked agave and fine wood. Tasters on Tequila Matchmaker center on oak, with earthy, almost mushroom-like aromas, caramel and black pepper, while Tequila.net reviewers praise its smooth, balanced interplay of wood and agave. The result is a woody, earthy añejo rather than a candied one, and it rewards drinkers who like the barrel to lead. Sip it neat or over a single large cube, or build a tequila Old Fashioned with it. Once the bottle is empty, the round decanter is worth keeping on the bar.
