Hennessy V.S is the Cognac house's Very Special blend, the brand's youngest and most mixable expression, matured in new oak barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. Every year Hennessy hands the V.S bottle to an artist for a limited edition, and this release, marking the tenth anniversary of that series, went to FAITH XLVII, the South African-born, Los Angeles-based artist who moved from graffiti and murals into studio work. Her design, titled Blending the Elements, is a mandala built from layered imagery of the sun, moons, clouds, rain and grapevines, the natural cycles that govern both a vineyard and a cellar. She drew the parallel herself, describing an alchemy in the way artists and cognac makers work: both take basic substances and turn them into something remarkable. The cognac inside is the standard V.S blend. Hennessy describes it as bold and fragrant with toasted and fruit notes and a rich, clearly defined palate, and published notes on this edition point to roasted almonds, brown sugar and vineyard fruit on the nose with vanilla and fresh, floral notes on the palate. It works in a Sidecar or a highball, and the bottle is the reason to hold onto one after it's empty.
